Cross-cutting is the cut between two characters to show their progress in what they are doing and it creates attention.
Reaction shots are used to show the characters reaction towards something and they are often close ups and medium shots of their face.
Seamless editing is when editing techniques are so well put together that they would be un noticeable.
Jump cut is when you cut the unwanted material out of the shot and join it to the next shot, however this transition is not smooth.
flashback is when we travel back in time to show back story of a person or make our audience aware of something that has happened before.
Editing can be used poetically by making the shot more abstract and not literal so that the audience has to work harder to work out whats going on.
