The marketing department of every network is responsible of promoting the brand's name which can be done by making TV idents.TV idents are short clips to promote a brand name and it's always targeted at a specific target audience. Most of the time there is a voiceover that introduces us to the next programme. These TV idents are used to represent the channel.
TV channels spend millions of pounds on their TV idents. They must have interesting content, this is why sometimes they use actors or characters from their top famous shows to promote their image and personality.
The continuety announcer jumps in when a programe is just ending to keep the audience within the same network or channel.
By looking at a few TV idents I have noticed that they are both short in time, (about 15-25 seconds) for example the BBC 2005 christmas tv ident is 15 seconds long
.
The channels logo and name always appears somewhere in the TV idents, for example on the E4 BEACH HUT ident the logo appears in several places like at the each side of the gate and again in front of the shed.
There are always a soundtrack on there instead of the original sound and the sound levels drops as the narrator starts the voiceover. The best example is the BBC three intro ident because the beat of the music drops as the sound level and then we start hearing the voice over.
