Planning

THE TASK

In this task we have to plan, produce and edit an insert for CWC magazine show that need to be using single-camera technique. The duration of this insert must be within 2 minutes and the purpose of this video must be educational, informative and entertaining.

In this insert we are going to create a promotional video for CWC, and the product would be the student USB lanyard. Since we are making an advert our insert does not need to have a specific title name.

LOCATION

The best location that we can think of is somewhere inside the college, since this video is being created for them. We start by two time laps of college then to the next scene. We decide to use the learning centre and other parts of the college as the location for the insert because it would also be the best option that reflects our target audience. This created a number of things to consider for us. for example we had to begin filming in LRC openning times and we also need to be doing that when it is not very busy. So we have to work out when the best is going to be. For the ending scene we decided to use fifth floor of college for the part that Jordon  wakes up.

THE SCENARIO

what happens in the video is that a student (Jordon) is in the library and all of his storage devices are full of his assignment. and he wishes to have a bit more storage device like a USB that never gets lost or left behind. Then he sees his friend (Eyyaz) and he tells him about the new USB lanyards that college supplies for the students. Jordan then reaches out to the usb and the screen flashes white, we then see jordan wake up from a dream and look at his lanyard, he then talks to himself saying that he neds one of those lanyards. As jordan walks away we see eyyaz sitting in the booth next door and talks towards the camera saying to pick up the new lanyards downstairs.

EQUIPMENT AND PROPS

In terms of equipment and props we have to have:

Camera - in this case we are using a DSLR camera to film with including lenses. We are also going to be using a gopro hero 2 for a shot that is going to be inside Jordon's bag.

Tripod - This is going to be used for the time lap shots that need to be very steady and persice.

sound recorder - we are using a directional micrphone (RODE VIDEOMIC) to record the sound of the environment and a portable sound recorder (ZOOM H1) to record the dialogue audio

3 SD cards - to be using as a storage for the camera and the sound recorder. And 1 for filming

USB lanyard - This is the product we will be promoting so we are going to be need it for filming because we have to show it.

Batteries - to power the microphones. We had to have more than what we needed just in case if something goes wrong the filming process doesn't stop
We also need to consider suitable clothing that our target audience would appreciate. For example the clothes have to be casual and each character needs to have 2 sets of clothes so that we can show that Jordon was dreaming. We left the actors to choose their clothes themselves as long as it meets our criteria.

About Me

Hi
My name is Mohammad Ebrahimpour. I'm 19 years old and Since I'm very interested in Media, I decided to do my studies in this route. Currently I'm studying level 3 Creative Media Production at City of Westminster college. In this course I have developed my filming and editing skills, and i have learnt the basics of planning a project, I have also learn some skills on lighting which i didn't know anything about.
Overall I'm happy with the course im studying and i enjoy it alot.

I live in London. More specifically in a area called ''Acton''  for about more than two years with my family. I have a five year old brother and a fifteen year old sister and I'm the eldest child in my family.

I am also intrested in different areas like sport and films and a bit of politics. My favourite tennis player is Roger Federer who is world number 3 now. In football I support chelsea and my favourite players are peter cech, John Terry and Frank Lampard. I don't like any particular politician and they are all the same.

There are some stuff that everybody likes. For example music, film or a hero. Well for music I like the American rappers and pop however I rarely find something intresting from UK as well. My favourite top artists are Kanye West, Eminem, Dr.dre and Jay-Z.

When I just begin to think of a good film I just say the godfather, and I can watch it over and over again. I think this film is a master piece and everything is just right. I think you can't tell your favourite films and they are all good in a different sort of way. But I like Comedy, Action, Drama film and political, social documentaries so I watch panorama sometimes.

There is only one show that I watch on TV and that is Top gear. I love this programme and it is my dream to make something like that myself. I like the presenter because they are funny and serious at different times and maybe because I like Motoring as well. It is also good to know that I like gadgets too since I have mentioned cars.
In the last academic year I was studying L2 media production at Ealing college and I have created some short clips in that time.
In this example I had to create a 10 shot sequence film of a person who looses his wallet and somebody sees him he gives it back to him. I wanted to add a bit of comedy so I changed thing in the editing part.

This video is from this year and I helped making this film.

I have been inspired by number of people for different reasons. Like Steve Jobs for his courage to change the world and creating a better life for everyone. Martin Luther king who was looking for equality, justice and happiness for everyone and lost his family and life for that.

Ident Presentation

cut out animation evaluation

I started this assignment a bit late, and I joined in when every had most of their research and cut out from magazines. This meant that I had to speed things up and my group mate was in the same kind of situation.

So we just browsed a few magazines and started cutting whatever we though would be useful. We thought that it would be better to leave the storyboard and the rest of the paper work for later to save time. So we planned every thing on top of our head and began.

After setting up the camera and preparing to start we decided to divide the timeline into two and make one scene each. We just did enough to complete taking pictures.

In the second day unfortunately my group mate was absent so I had to edit, add music and put the necessary sound effects. So we lost all the time that we had saved in the previous lesson. I was trying to finish every as soon as possible so the quality did not come out as expected.

TV Ident Evaluation

The TV ident that I have analysed was the BBC Two zoetrope ident. I have established that the colours used are not funky and bright which shows that the ident is targeted for older people and its not appreciated by teenagers and young adults.
Also the soundtrack which they have used establishes that agin the target audience would be around 25-40, this is because there is no heavy beats in the music and its not sort of music that young people like to listen to.
also the zeotrope at the end which is a old animation device confirms the age group, because we wouldn't know what that was unless we are old enough.
In this case other demographic does not matter such as race, ethnicity and religion.
I would also want to mention that the gender selected for the target audience is male because the fantasy world and the space crafts and flying cars are all sort of thing that would come out of a male's imagination.

The TV ident that I have choose to write against with is the channel 4 diner ident. because the pace and the speed is very slow and the music is also boring in my opinion. the voice over comes in very late as well, therefore the audience would be bored and they would have enough time to change the channel. This is why I think this ident has got the potential to be unsuccessful.

Intro to TV Idents

The marketing department of every network is responsible of promoting the brand's name which can be done by making TV idents.TV idents are short clips to promote a brand name and it's always targeted at a specific target audience. Most of the time there is a voiceover that introduces us to the next programme. These TV idents are used to represent the channel.
TV channels spend millions of pounds on their TV idents. They must have interesting content, this is why sometimes they use actors or characters from their top famous shows to promote their image and personality.

The continuety announcer jumps in when a programe is just ending to keep the audience within the same network or channel.

By looking at a few TV idents I have noticed that they are both short in time, (about 15-25 seconds) for example the BBC 2005 christmas tv ident is 15 seconds long
.
The channels logo and name always appears somewhere in the TV idents, for example on the E4 BEACH HUT ident the logo appears in several places like at the each side of the gate and again in front of the shed.

There are always a soundtrack on there instead of the original sound and the sound levels drops as the narrator starts the voiceover. The best example is the BBC three intro ident because the beat of the music drops as the sound level and then we start hearing the voice over.

Preparing to Edit

Here we have our project with lots of different sequence. to save time the programme allow us to lable our sequences in the browser and tick the ones we really like.
When we expand the browser can see that the browser gives us a lot more information that we saw in the previous shot.
we have to drag the log note and good column to the beginning so we can see it.

now we can label our sequence by double-clicking on the area and giving it a name so we can remember what it is.
We can create bin by activating the browser first and then pressing the cmd+B.
Make sure that you create different bins for audio, pictures and video.

CHROMA KEY TASK

Tuesday, 24 January 2012

1. First we start with opening a new project which should be done by pressing: (file/ new project)

2. When we have done that we have to create a scratch disk.
We can do this by clicking on the Final cut menu/ System settings

3. Then we should get a window like this.

4. Now we have to tell the programme where we want our files to be save which is called ''setting up''.
We then click on the button which says 'set' at the top. and we locate the file we want to save.
We have to remmember to do the same thing for 'waveform cache', 'thumbnail cache' and 'autosave vault' and locate the same file for each one.

5. When we have done this we press 'ok'.

6. Now we are ready to work on our project and save it as we go along.

Intro To Editing ''editing - the invisible art''

Cross-cutting is  the cut between two characters to show their progress in what they are doing and it creates attention.
Reaction shots are used to show the characters reaction towards something and they are often close ups and medium shots of their face.
Seamless editing is when editing techniques are so well put together that they would be un noticeable.
Jump cut is when you cut the unwanted material out of the shot and join it to the next shot, however this transition is not smooth.
flashback is when we travel back in time to show back story of a person or make our audience aware of something that has happened before.
Editing can be used poetically by making the shot more abstract and not literal so that the audience has to work harder to work out whats going on.

Intro To Editing

Editing is the process of selecting and  joining up different shots that will convey a meaning and creates a story. Elliptical editing is a sequence of shots that have continuity, that allows the audience to fill in the gaps. Eliptical editing also saves time. Long shots are used to remind us of the location and the people in the scene. Non-diagetic sound is when music is added at top of the natural sound, the character can't hear it but the viewer can.

The film that we have watched starts with reverse shot of a girl looking for a ring. We know this because the eye line of the character is looking down which means she looking for something. At the end of the sequence she slightly starts to bend down and we cut to the ring on the floor with her hand picking it up.

Overhead establishibg shot shows the space that the action is going to take place and also shows the characters in that particular scene and who is talking to each other.
Shot reverse shot is when we cut between two close ups or medium shot of two people as they are talking to each other to show their communication.
Eye line matching is when the angle of the eye of two characters links together in two different shots.
By watching that particular scene of the hustle we can see cut to the other members of the group to show their reaction towards the decision.
Wipe is a transition that we used in editing to tell our audience that we are in a different time and place.
The idea of using quick cuts is to create pace and keeps the audience's attention and it's also energetic.
